'Pill' Web Series Ending Explained & Finale Recap: Will There Be A Season 2? (2024)

The plot of Pill hinged on the efforts of Medical Authority of India officers Prakash and Gursimrat, budding investigative journalist Noor, and whistleblower Ashish to expose the fraudulent activities of Forever Cure Pharma. Apparently, this private company, headed by Mr. Gill, had developed antibiotic medicine as well as drugs for diabetic patients that had taken numerous lives, and they were about to launch a pill for cancer patients after getting approval and quotations from America and Germany. So, they needed to put a stop to him and Forever Cure Pharma before they killed more people. However, they realized very quickly that it was going to be an uphill task because everyone, from government officials to law enforcement agencies and medical experts, was in Gill’s pocket, and those who had suffered at the hands of Forever Cure were not ready to speak up. To make matters worse, the man who had access to all the company’s data, Ashish, spiraled out because of how he was intimidated by his superiors. That’s why, even though Prakash, Gursimrat, and Noor managed to present their case in front of the Supreme Court, they found it extremely difficult to substantiate their claims. Did they end up defeating Forever Cure Pharma, though? Let’s find out.

Spoiler Alert

Gill advises Prakash to call it quits

Gill is obviously furious that the court case against Forever Cure Pharma, by Prakash and his righteous soldiers, is going to hamper their merger with the Germans and ruin their relationship with the Americans. At the court, Prakash presents videographic evidence of all the victims of Forever Cure’s clinical trials, interviewed by Noor, who are rotting away in a place called Camp Ekta. Forever Cure’s lawyer says that it’s all fake, and the Supreme Court judges give Forever Cure one week to prove that what Prakash is showing is fake. Meanwhile, Prakash has to present all the victims in court after one week or get their written testimony. As expected, Gill uses every form of intimidation to get the victims of the clinical trials of his company to shut the hell up. By the time Noor, Gursimrat, and Prakash get to them, they’ve either taken the hush money or are too afraid to testify against Gill. Gill’s goons even get a bunch of doctors to support Forever Cure Pharma. Prakash, Noor, and Gursimrat realize that the only person who can help them get out of this mess is Ashish. Since he is unable to function properly because he is too depressed and stressed out, they try to reach out to his wife, Sukhmani. But even that turns out to be a dead end, at least for the time being. So, the Supreme Court has no other option but to give Forever Cure a free pass. Since the judges need a day to go through all the (falsified) data provided by Forever Cure, Prakash gets 24 hours to bring Ashish and the data in his possession to the court. However, Gill is so confident that they’ve won the case that he advises Prakash to call it quits. Prakash refuses to do any such thing, and he tells Gill to put a lid on his excitement.

Ashish is injured in a traffic collision

Gill and the rest of his Forever Cure Pharma team prematurely celebrate their victory, and that’s when Keerat drops a bombshell by revealing that her own father, CM Dilbagh Brar, has been peddling expired meds on behalf of her future father-in-law, Gill. Prakash knows that that won’t be enough to turn the tide in their favor. So they keep trying to convince Sukhmani to bring Ashish to the Supreme Court and provide some evidence against Forever Cure Pharma. Ashish finally gets over his fear of the goons (sent by Forever Cure) standing outside his house to keep him from acting against the company and pulls out a pen drive from a hidden spot behind the almirah with the intention of doing what’s right. Ashish reveals that he had smuggled out all the data that he had extracted from Forever Cure’s database in the birthday cake that he was given, and now he wants to put it to some good use. Fearing the worst, Sukhmani initially prevents Ashish from risking his life, but eventually, she conspires with her husband to incapacitate the goons so that Ashish can reach Prakash. It seems like the plan is going to work, but the goons regain consciousness, and they use the police to script a traffic collision that grievously injures Ashish, thereby rendering him incapable of getting to Prakash, Noor, and Gursimrat. Ashish’s pen drive gets lost in the process, and that brings the heroes of Pill back to square one.

Prakash and his team defeat Forever Cure Pharma

Since Noor has a habit of keeping multiple copies of any important piece of evidence, he theorizes that Ashish must’ve done the same, and the pen drive that was in Ashish’s possession during the traffic collision isn’t the only copy of the files he had extracted from Forever Cure Pharma’s database. Noor’s hunch turns out to be true as Gursimrat finds a second pen drive in Ashish’s mother’s pendant. Prakash, Gursimrat, Noor, and Sukhmani heave a sigh of relief and head to the Supreme Court to present the evidence they have unearthed. They reach their destination unscathed because Gill, Basudev, and the rest of the Forever Cure Pharma team have become too relaxed to make a move against the truthseekers.

In Pill‘s ending, Prakash, after presenting the evidence of Forever Cure Pharma’s fraudulent activities, gives an impassioned speech about how government and private bodies have jeopardized crores of lives and why they should be punished severely. The Supreme Court rules in favor of Prakash and penalizes Forever Cure Pharma and all those who have helped them earn an unimaginable amount of money while turning a blind eye to the dead bodies that were piling up. The suspension orders on Prakash and Gursimrat are revoked. Ashish starts to recover. And the show concludes with Prakash going back to work, while his wife, Babita, looks at him with an expression of pride all over her face.

Will there be a second season?

At the time of writing this article, there’s no official confirmation from JioCinema of the cancellation or renewal of Pill. So, all I can do is speculate. In my opinion, writers Raj Kumar Gupta, Parveez Shaikh, and Jaideep Yadav wrap up the story and the individual character arcs in the show in a conclusive fashion. I mean, sure, you can get Gill to get more vicious and use tactics that he didn’t use in Season 1 to attack Prakash, Noor, Gursimrat, and Ashish in a potential Season 2 of the show. I am saying that because that’s the only gripe I have regarding the show: it’s too optimistic of an ending.

I think at some point in the show, someone says that the good people aren’t running the world anymore; it’s in the hands of the evil folk, like Gill. Therefore, the show’s contrived ending seems to be too good to be true, and I have a feeling that if Pill gets a second season, it’s going to open with Gill undoing all the great work that has been done by Prakash, Noor, Gursimrat, and Ashish. And the heroes will need to start from scratch and prove why people like Gill shouldn’t be allowed to roam around, and they should be forced to rot in the most disgusting jail on the planet for killing so many people with the help of something as important as medicines. Or the showrunners can bring in a new threat to fill the vacuum that has been created in the medicine mafia after Gill’s exit, who is going to make Gill look like a pacifist, thereby forcing the heroes to come up with new tactics to save the general populace, their jobs, and their families. It’s okay if Raj Kumar Gupta decides not to do a second season and lets Pill be a standalone show. But if he does make a second season, firstly, I hope he takes the time to ensure that the writing is as solid as Season 1 of Pill, and secondly, I’ll be seated to watch it as soon as it drops.
