Easy Garlic Knots Recipe - Cooking With Teens (2024)

Family dinner is really important to me. Ever since I was little I remember sitting down to eat dinner with my family. It is a great time to visit, laugh, and make memories together. Another thing I remember is the yummy food. Often times my mom or older sisters would cook, but there were days that were busy and filled with too much to do, so my mom would get a Lasagna and throw it in the oven so we could still have a delicious dinner. As I have grown, I have continued that in our home. Having kids has helped me understand the importance of family meals, especially ones where they can help. A lasagna paired with a green salad and our easy garlic knots recipe is one of our favorites. They help me with the garlic knots, and then I can help them with other things (like homework, housework, etc) while the lasagna is cooking and it is a great family dinner.

The garlic knots we make to go along with this delicious dinner are really easy to make and so I want to share how we made them with you so you can have them with your next dinner. I grabbed a can of croissant biscuits (or flaky dinner rolls) a bag of shredded Parmesan cheese, a jar of marinarasauce, and a bag of romaine salad in addition to the lasagna. If you don’t have any at home, you will also need butter. Homemade lasagna is absolutely the best, but if you don’t have time, a frozen one is great.

When you get home, get your lasagna in the oven cooking. When there are about 15 minutes left on the timer, you will want to get the biscuits, butter, cheese, and seasonings out so you can get your garlic knots ready to put in the oven when the Lasagna comes out. I used a silicone cupcake pan to put the knots in to cook them, but they are more crispy if you bake them on a sheet. Putting them together was really easy – just take a can of croissant dough or biscuit dough and roll them out into about 6-8 inch long “snakes” as my kids call them, then you will fold them into a knot. I make a mixture of melted butter, oregano, parsley, shredded Parmesan, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning to baste onto the knots before baking. I just guessed at the amounts – but I think about 2-3 tbsp of butter, 1/2-1 tsp of each seasoning, and then about 1 – 1 1/2 tsp of garlic. This added a lot of flavor. I saved some of the melted butter (without anything else to baste on the knots after they were done cooking as well as sprinkled some of the Parmesan cheese on top. Bake them for about 10-15 minutes at 375 degrees. This allows the Lasagna to cool slightly and gives you time to set the table and get everyone around it. 🙂

I love how well the garlic knots pair with the lasagna. Then adding the green salad makes it look like I spent a couple of hours in the kitchen cooking and in reality, it only took me about 15 minutes to prepare everything! This is a great easy family dinner meal – and with the busy holidays coming up – there couldn’t be a better time than now to add a few of these to your shopping list. I also love to prepare these and take them to friends and family who need a meal – or I want to surprise them with a dinner.
