This homemade Chex Mix Recipe is something my Mom has been making since I was a little kid. It’s the best party mix! It doesn’t get better than this mix of cereal, nuts, pretzels, and all that spice! A little bit sweet and a little bit spicy. It’s perfect for Christmas, tailgating, Summer BBQs, and every day in between.

Why We Love This Homemade Chex Mix Recipe

This recipe has been in my family for years and years. My mom, Susie, knows how to make a goooooood party mix. I like to call it the best Chex mix recipe ever. It is really, really good… addicting, actually (ask my dad– he always gets to it first and takes all of the cashews). Bottom line is you will love this Chex party mix.

Once I show you how to make Chex mix at home, you’ll never eat store-bought stuff again. You won’t need to! It’s so easy, basically hands-off, and so much tastier too. Try it to believe it!

Variations on Christmas Chex Mix

We love this recipe as is, but you can also add in more extras, even something sweet like m&ms! That would make it more of a trail mix, but it would still be utterly delicious.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Crispix cereal
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Honey Chex cereal
  • 1 cup Cheerios cereal
  • 1 cup Honey Nut Cheerios cereal
  • 1 cup Pretzel Goldfish
  • 2-3 cups whole cashews
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • teaspoons seasoning salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper or to taste (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 250°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet or lasagna pan with parchment paper and set aside.

  • Combine all cereals, pretzels, and nuts in a large bowl.

    3 cups Crispix cereal, 3 cups Rice Chex cereal, 3 cups Honey Chex cereal, 1 cup Cheerios cereal, 1 cup Honey Nut Cheerios cereal, 1 cup Pretzel Goldfish, 2-3 cups whole cashews

  • In a medium saucepan set over low heat, melt the butter. Add the Worcestershire sauce and seasoning salt (and cayenne if using) and mix well.

    ¾ cup unsalted butter, 3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce, 1½ teaspoons seasoning salt, 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

  • Pour the butter mixture over the cereal and gently stir until everything is evenly coated.

  • Spread the cereal onto the prepared baking sheet.

  • Bake for 45-60 minutes – stirring every 15 minutes until it turns a little golden.

  • Pour out onto aluminum foil and let cool completely.

How to Make Chex Mix Step by Step

Combine the Cereals: Preheat oven to 250°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet or lasagna pan with parchment paper and set aside. Combine 3 cups of Crispix cereal, 3 cups of Rice Chex cereal, 3 cups of Honey Chex cereal, 1 cup of Cheerios cereal, 1 cup of Honey Nut Cheerios cereal, 1 cup of Pretzel Goldfish, and 2-3 cups of whole cashews in a large bowl.

Make the Sauce: In a medium saucepan set over low heat, melt ¾ cup of unsalted butter. Add 3 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce and 1½ teaspoons of seasoning salt (and 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper if using) and mix well.

Stir the Snack Mix: Pour the butter mixture over the cereal and gently stir until everything is evenly coated.

Bake the Snack Mix: Spread the cereal onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 45-60 minutes – stirring every 15 minutes until it turns a little golden.
